Decorative plate walls have been around for centuries and many people think of antique plate collections of great grandeur. Kelly Wearstler among many leading designers can be thanked for reigniting this wonderful trend when she created a dramatic plate wall of art at the luxury beachside hotel Viceroy in Santa Monica last year.
From there many interior designers have continued to create colourful and quirky displays from decorative plates. We recently wrote about home decor trends for 2021 on this blog… sustainability, cottage-core and Grand Millennials to name a few and it’s easy to see why plate walls share a new found love in many homes as we’re becoming more resourceful, appreciating vintage elements and the story behind our collected items.
It’s not just about vintage either… we’re seeing modern, simplistic, bold patterned or colourful new plates being put to good use to create dramatic wall art!
