Springtime evokes alot of energy for most…increasing sunshine and warmer days allow us to throw open the windows and doors and get inspired about home interior projects! Here are my thoughts on some easy home interior projects you could embrace this spring…
Freshen up your home colour…
Why not brighten up the colour palate of your living room, bedrooms or study with fun and bright colours. This could be as simple as throws, new cushions, rugs, candles , occasional chair, colourful vase, a piece of artwork or you could choose a bolder colour for the walls! If you have an accent wall why not change this too! Check out my 2020 colours update for the on-trend colours this year. With each colour you can explore the shades in more depth to create a fun and colour-filled scheme suitable for spring-summer. I’m loving the colours Resene have released for this spring 2020 looking at shades of burnt orange, botanical greens and mustard to greater effect.

Bring the outside in…
Fill the home with leafy and floral botanical arrangements from the garden or your local roadside stall. A strong theme for home decoration this year is all about biophilic interior design especially in bathrooms and living areas. Earlier in the year I talked about this concept which is all about elements of nature reflected through colour, materials and plants. Palates of green, botanical imagery, floral wallpapers, natural light and nature inspired fabrics and walls. Materials include wicker, rattan, jute, wood, cork, rope, stone. Inside… olive trees replace 2019’s fiddle leaf fig with a trend towards real plants not faux! Wood elements become slightly darker this year using walnut or mahogany, a change from the lighter woods of recent years. For further reading check out my 2020 Interior decor trends.
Brighten up the bedroom layers…
Give your bedroom a new look and feel by updating duvets, blankets, cushions and throws. Tuck away winter quilts and bring out your brightest, on-trend and spring-like duvets and layers to match. You could also add new candles, lamps, picture frames to colour-pop your theme. I introduced some eco elements recently in our bedroom by adding some woven mats on top of the side tables for a natural look and to protect the surface, along with some coloured woolen totes for under bed storage.
New accessories for your bathroom…
Updating your bathroom accents can really give it a good lift, focusing on easy items like towels, bathmats, soap dispensers, toothbrush holders, candles, plants and even artwork. I’ve recently updated my bathroom accessories adding hints of botanical green and black to our otherwise beige and white tile scheme. It has definitely transformed it and I love the one- off towel hook for behind the door which is a black wrought iron bird, very unique and suits our modern-country home.
Re-colour old furniture…
This could be old and tired items around the home like nests of tables, side tables, an old dresser or antique chair. I rejuvenated my childhood dresser for my little girl with different tones of Resene seafoam a soft pastel aqua for each of the draws. I’m also in the process of sanding and repainting my old fireside chair which I plan to take from its woodstain to white and brighten up the fabric.
