Kitchen reveals ... so it was back to their own apartments this week with some pretty low scores from last weeks apartment 5 project. The big focus from the judges wanting the teams “to be more bold” with their wall, floor and kitchen ceiling plans, as these are all important design aspects and to strongly consider colour and texture.
Here’s what the Teams came up with… Kitchen spends ranging from 20-30K
Winning Team Stacey and Adam (18.5/20) 25K spend. Their monochrome kitchen had some great key elements with a concrete bench top, under bench seating, rust orange colour pop , vivid patterned wall, ceiling lighting detail over the island bench and a glass feature table. Team Stacey and Adam have really stepped up this week. The judges we’re also really impressed “its so nice to see so much vivid graphic fun” clearly they have really listened to our feedback. The judges also felt the glass top table was a great choice giving the feeling of extra space in smaller rooms along with an interesting detail of mixing up the chairs. The layout has also been really thought about, backing the table up against the couch giving more space and it can easily be pulled out when needed. Clever thinking! To shop the look click here.
Team Lisa and Ribz (17.5/20) 25k Spend. A great week for Lisa and Ribz designing and delivering a matt black kitchen with electric blue pressed metal wall covering and stylish bronze mirror backsplash – a great use of textures. Overall the judges liked it too, Jason was a big fan of the splashback and Lizzy liked the finish of the pressed metal wall and interior design touches like muesli layered jar. One improvement could have been a buffet cabinet rather than open glass shelves so there was more storage. To shop the look click here.
Team Ethan and Sam (16.5/20) 30K spend. Great work by the boys to get third place, in my view this felt a far the more lux kitchen of the group. Still they got plenty of kudos from the judges for going all out sparking Jason to say “well well they’ve used colour and oh my they’ve actually used metal I don’t believe it”. The brass chevron backsplash tile was stunning, paired with butter coloured walls in ‘Resene Smooth operator’, soft Pendant lighting, natural wood floors, handmade industrial hanging shelves and the clever wine cooler under the bench. Team Sophia and Mikaere (13.5/20) 20K spend. This was a complete opposite from all the other kitchens with more of a bright white look instead of darker bolder kitchens. The judges were still very impressed although they differed on the narrow island Caesarstone benchtop, Jason felt they had wasted space. Key features were the multidimensional back splash tile for texture, granite dining table and the small wine cooler in the wall. The big issue letting this team down was finishing…both judges felt the finishing was pretty poor on the paintwork with some areas of paint missing, the same issue from the start, great ideas but bad execution.
